Plenty to do besides fishing

Take a guided expedition to White Otter Lake to see the amazing White Otter Castle, visit Indian rock paintings or explore and hike a special, provincially protected, wilderness area. Hike or canoe Sanford and other smaller lakes. Take in gorgeous lake scenes from the hiking trails. Play horseshoes or volleyball. And, end the day with a tranquil beachside campfire.

Families often come to Tip Top looking for a more varied outdoor experience - as well as fishing. We recommend a trip that incorporates fishing for a day and then some of our guided tours.

Day One could be a fishing day with fishing guide and shore lunch to experience the northern fishing adventure.

Another day could be a tour of White Otter Lake, taking in the historic White Otter Castle as well as the ancient rock paintings on a truly breath-taking lake. A leisurely lunch break on a beautiful sand beach is part of the day. Your guide will add to your experience, with his or her knowledge of the area. (White Otter Lake is part of the Turtle River-White Otter Lake Provincial Park).

The next day might consist of a trip to Campus Lake where you can explore a huge and unique bog that has been designated a Conservation Reserve. Your guide can explain the significance and features of this interesting area. From there, your guide can take you on a canoe hike into Lilypad Lake, a small lake rich with wildlife. There are few places that offer a better chance of observing a moose.

Family members or visitors who may not want to fish can enjoy our one mile long sandy beach. Swim, snorkel, sun bathe, or steam away your stress in the sauna and then cool off with a quick dip in the lake.

The three hour excursion to White Otter Castle includes stops in several locations to see the Native Pictographs and writings on rock walls and ledges of White Otter Lake, PLUS tour the White Otter Castle.

You can also hike the trail from the Lodge to the top of the cliffs for a star gazing experience. The Northern Lights are spectacular to view at night, especially when the loons are calling in the distance.
